Governing The 10,452 km2

January 12, 2011
Welcome to what?

Welcome to what?

Dear Lebanese Officials,

Picture it, a Canadian city with a “metro area” of 9,417.88 km2 is where I currently live. Not a bad size city if you ask me… pretty close to the full size Lebanon actually. It seems to be governed very well… I mean traffic runs smoothly and safely, snow is removed on time (usually), people follow the laws, and jobs for anyone who is actually trying to find a job. Oh, did I mention that the city council is ALWAYS functioning effectively and properly? Now picture this: my Canadian city is very small compared to the 9,984,670 km2 which encompasses the whole Canadian country… and guess what? They’re governing all that land, with all those 35 million people remarkably well.

I find it very embarrassing actually. I mean we are one of the smallest nations in the world, with one of the smallest populations in the world as well (not including diaspora), but yet we cannot govern a measly 10,452 km2, while Canada can govern itself (the worlds largest nation) very well. I mean the Canadians have their difficulties sometimes, but hey… we don’t see Canadian ministers trying to topple each other every chance they get! Its embarrassing because for 30 years, these puny 10,452 km2 have continuously proven to the world they are a.) incapable of taking care of themselves, b.) they do not have independence in any way, shape or form, and that c.)  the same leaders (who us citizens – the continuous idiot supporters- keep voting for) are incapable of steering this nation to a positive and prosperous future. Thats embarrassing, and if the Lebanese government doesn’t think so… then we have a very serious problem. Who am I kidding, I am still saying the word “government”… you’d think I’d be used to the fact that WE NEVER REALLY HAD ONE!

What we have in Lebanon, sorry let me rephrase… what we “had” in Lebanon was not a government. We had, a group of children playing tag, hide and seek, and being stubbornly annoying. Every time they fix something, a thousand more negative issues come their way… but unlike the Canadians, they don’t sit down and talk about it… quite the opposite actually. They pout their lips, look the other way, and start calling people names on television… yeah I’m referring to the alien Weam Wahab if you are wondering. Our cabinet consists of a group of wealthy men, who come from “prestigious” families, each claiming to be a leader for his/her sect. W tozz… NOBODY is a representative of an entire sect! I don’t like to mention sects, mainly because everyone already thinks Lebanon is extremely sectarian… so to sit an say “Lebanon is like this because there are so many sects” is silly. If thats the problem go secular already and ray7oona ba2a! Canada is a nation built on immigrants… imagine, just imagine for one second, how many religions, how many cultures, and how many people from different nations live in Canada TOGETHER and PEACEFULLY… look where Canada is today, all 9, 984, 670 km2 of it, is… and where our 10, 452 km2 is (nowhere, we haven’t moved).

Why do we the Lebanese have to continuously worry about everything, why must we sacrifice from our lives, how many people have to leave, and how many more Lebanese have to embaress themselves in international airports everytime you guys cannot get together and agree, because that automatically makes Lebanon a “high-risk” zone? If you don’t know already, many nations are urging and even stopping people from traveling to Lebanon… did you know that? Why can Syrian-Canadians travel to Syria whenever they want to, while us the Lebanese have to be told that our nation is unsafe? As Majida el Roumi once saidyou guys say you are united for the people, and you know we are not well, you destroyed this nation, you separated us. You did not answer her, and you won’t answer me, I am sure. Ni7na Libnaniyet Canada shu khasna kil ma da2eito rouskon bi 7itan Libnein, ni7na mni3la2 bi ba3ed hon? Fara2touna bi Libnein, w fara2touna bil ghorbeh. Bravo, anjad… ma7adan 3amila haydeh 2abelkon. Wlak daba7o ba3don bi Bosnia w Serbia, dammarao el dinnyi… bas bil ghorbeh, wa2faneen ma3 ba3od, w ma byistaghno 3an ba3od. FHAMO BA2A.

Anyways, I, like many Lebanese don’t care about you anymore… and like a fellow blogger (who seems to have had enough herself) indirectly said in her post The Lebanese State of Non-Governance : with or without you, we are not getting anywhere. So to save us the headache, I’d rather not have a single one of you around, and the sooner we stop re-electing and supporting you, the better off we all will be. We are Lebanon, not you. We are the ones who suffer for this country, not you. We are the ones who have family members on every continent in the world, while your families fill the rooms of your villas sipping wines bought with the sweat and blood of us and our families. Enough.  There is no way to end this post, than the same way my fellow blogger did: Whether there is a Government or not. We Will be. Amen to that… Amen.

Sincerely,

Seif

I think the oppositions move was neither good or bad. ye3ni nihna we weren’t benefiting either way. The only person who has ever done anything is Ziad Baroud. Everyone beyond that is a loser. If we get that, we’d all understand that theres nothing to be upset about and we’d move on. The Lebanese don’t need a government to help them differentiate right from wrong, to figure what will and will not fix our country. It’s in our hands. If a civil war does indeed erupt, we should be not just ashamed of these politicians, we should be ashamed of ourselves. It’s in our hands to determine what the next step is.

Hopefully this fall of government will bring some good. New people should run, new faces and lets get rid of all the losers in the system.

The move by the opposition will be very negative on the whole country! Tensions are rising… very quickly. I would rather not see another “May 7″ type incident, or even worse… another Civil War. With the STL, no government, a people filled with anger at one another… this is not good. At all.

However, I do think it may be good for one thing…the Lebanese people seem to have had enough of this idiocy too… maybe new faces, with no links to our current leaders, is exactly what we need! Lets wait and see!

Whether there is a Government or not. We Will be. Amen to that indeed. Perfectly said. I don’t think there is anything we can add to this anymore. What a sad reality we live in.

Heartfelt and fantastic. As a non-Lebanese this is frustrating..I can’t imagine what all of this feels like for you. Whatever the case, I love this country and hope I will be here long enough to see it thrive and prosper in PEACE!

I don;t think that is fair what you said. there is no comparison between Ben Ali and Hariri. Your comment was filled with hate… obviously an opposition supporter filled with prejudice, hate and 7AMRANI. Did you realize that most people do not want to be fighting all the time, so you can take the “MOKAWEM” and shuv it up your ass!

L3ama bi 2loubkon! El li2em wil 7i2ed 3am yna2it minkon ton2it! This post had nothing to do with Hariri alone, it was directed to all of the leaders, even your stupid opposition leaders! You turned this into a political campaign or a place to put your stupid opinions when this post had nothing to do with it!!

I hate politics, and I hate all politiciansin Lebanon… but you opposition followers are al2am khili2 allah!

    Majida and Janbein,

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate your comments and for visiting my blog. Let me say, Hariri, his coalition, the opposition and their coalition are ALL at fault. They both have hurt this nation and will continue to do so. The more people argue with eachother or direct words like the above at eachother, the worse our nation will become. From Hariri and Nasrallah to Aoun and Gaegae… they are ALL guilty and they ALL need to be eradicated and new faces taking their place.

Today, a very intelligent individual on Twitter said something that really is important: Our problem is not religons, it is not our leaders, it’s the fact we all have hidden intentions. We have to sit down, talk to one another and reach somewhere instead of directing words like the above to eachother.

Let’s face it Seif , political money and corruption is a big player in everything. Lebanon wouldn’t exist, economically, without those transfers. What we say about the diasporas financing the local one is intentionally misleading to hide the real source of income in this country. Especially in the past 20 years, overseas transfers have been significantly reduced. Everyone has hidden intentions because everyone wants to make $$$; and in Lebanon the ONLY source of real wealth is political affiliation and corruption. After all, BUSINESS is in our DNA !
